Leaving the Comfortable Place: Discovering God’s Strength Beyond Our Own

“My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness.”2 Corinthians 12:9 (NIV)

Day 2

God Rarely Leaves Us Where We Are

When we examine the lives of the great men and women of faith, we discover that almost none of them remained where they were comfortable.

God called Abraham to leave everything he knew without showing him the final destination.

Moses spent forty years tending sheep before God interrupted his ordinary routine with a burning bush.

Joshua was forced to lead a nation after the death of Moses.

Esther exchanged the comfort of anonymity for the risk of standing before a king.

Peter stepped out of a perfectly good boat onto unstable water.

Paul left a successful religious career to become a missionary who would endure imprisonment, beatings, and hardship.

Each story follows a similar pattern. Before God expanded their influence, He expanded their faith. Before He entrusted them with greater assignments, He removed the supports that made them feel secure.

God often begins His greatest work by disrupting our comfort.

Questions to Consider:

  1. Is God calling you out of your comfort zone?
  2. What is God asking you to leave behind so you can move forward?
  3. If you’re not willing to leave your comfort zone, why not?
