Day One: You Have History with God

When David heard Goliath defying the armies of Israel, he decided something needed to be done. Others heard the same threats, but fear kept them standing still. Many had more military experience and better equipment than David. Yet David had the heart, passion, and resolve to confront the one who dishonored the God of Israel.
We often talk about David going into battle with a sling and five smooth stones. But David carried much more than human eyes could see.
David went out with history.
Before he faced Goliath, David had faced a lion and a bear while protecting his father’s sheep. He knew what it meant to encounter something stronger than himself. He also knew what God could do when his own strength was not enough.
David remembered who had delivered him.
What looked like an impossible battle to everyone else looked like another opportunity for God to demonstrate His faithfulness to David. The circumstances were different, but the God David trusted was the same.
We need to remember that when we face our own giants.
Sometimes, a new challenge makes us forget every old victory. We become so focused on what stands in front of us that we overlook what God has already brought us through. We forget the answered prayers, the unexpected provision, and the strength that showed up when we thought we could not take another step.
But you have history with God!
Remember the situation you thought would destroy you? Remember when you could not see a way forward, but God helped you keep moving? Those experiences have something to teach you about trusting Him today.
Your history does not tell you exactly how God will handle your next challenge. It reminds you that you can trust Him while you face it.
Before you decide you cannot do what God has asked, take a moment to remember what He has already done. The God who sustained you then is with you now.
Go with what you know: God has been faithful.
