The State of Being Content

A Three-Day Devotional by Anita Wamble

Day 3: Doing Things God’s Way

Why do our lives sometimes fill up with things that don’t matter, leaving little time for the people and priorities we say matter most?

We say our relationship with God comes first, but we give prayer whatever time is left. We say family matters, but those we love receive only the remainder of our energy. We say we want peace, yet we keep agreeing to commitments that leave us overwhelmed.

Sometimes we need to stop and ask, “Lord, does the way I am living reflect what You have called me to do?”

Not every difficult season means we have stepped outside God’s will. Paul faced hardship while faithfully serving Him. Still, it is wise to examine whether our choices are adding unnecessary burdens.

Are we following God’s direction, or trying to keep up with someone else? Are we pursuing an assignment He gave us, or seeking recognition He never asked us to chase?

First Timothy reminds us that godliness with contentment is great gain. Godliness involves honoring God in how we live. As we learn His ways, we also learn that possessions, position, and praise cannot provide the security we find in Him.

Doing things God’s way may require an adjustment. We may need to say no, establish a boundary, change a habit, or release an ambition that has become more important than obedience.

Ask God to examine your priorities. Listen for His direction through Scripture, prayer, and wise counsel. Then act on what He shows you.

You may still have unanswered questions and unfinished goals. But you can begin living with greater gratitude, clearer priorities, and deeper dependence on God today.

Today’s Challenge:
Review how you spend your time and energy. Choose one adjustment that will make room for what matters most—prayer, rest, family, service, or a responsibility you have neglected. Put that adjustment into practice today.

Prayer:
Father, examine my priorities and show me where I need to change. Give me wisdom to recognize Your direction and courage to follow it. Help me release unnecessary burdens and make room for what You have entrusted to me. Teach me to honor You with my choices and receive each day with gratitude. Grow godliness and contentment within me. In Jesus’ name, amen.
