Removing the weeds was only part of the work in my yard. Once the ground was cleared and the roses were planted, I still had to care for them.
The roses needed water, nourishment, and attention. I couldn’t walk away and assume they would flourish just because I had removed the weeds.
The same is true of our hearts and minds. We need to cultivate what God is planting in us.
Spend time in His Word. Talk to Him in prayer. Pay attention to the voices you allow to influence you. Make room for relationships that encourage you to grow in faith and live according to His truth.
And keep watching your garden.
An old thought may return when you are tired, disappointed, or facing something unfamiliar. That does not erase the growth you have experienced. It means something needs tending. Bring that thought to God and continue practicing what He has taught you.
Roses do not reach full bloom the day they are planted. Growth takes time. We need that same patience with ourselves. Every faithful step matters, even when the results are not immediately visible.
Isaiah describes the wilderness rejoicing and blossoming. What a beautiful reminder of God’s restoring power! A place that appears dry and barren is not beyond His reach.
Perhaps you have allowed hurtful words to determine what you believe is possible. Perhaps fear has kept you from using a gift, pursuing an opportunity, or taking a step of obedience.
Ask God what He wants you to do next. Then take that step with Him.
It is time to take back the ground that has been overrun by weeds. Keep planting God’s Word. Keep tending what He has entrusted to you. Keep trusting Him with the growth.
The weeds have had their season. It is time to make room for the roses!
Challenge:
Take one practical step toward something you have avoided because of a hurtful belief. Make the call, begin the project, offer your help, or use your gift. Choose a daily time to nurture your faith through scripture and prayer.
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for the good things You are growing in me. Help me nurture them with prayer, obedience, and attention to Your Word. Give me patience with the process and courage to take my next step. When old weeds return, help me address them without surrendering my progress. Let my life blossom, even in difficult seasons, and bring glory to You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
