A Three-Day Devotional

Day 2: Uproot the Lies

Some weeds have been growing in us for a long time. Their roots reach into our expectations, our relationships, and our willingness to pursue what God has placed before us.
Whenever we try something new, those weeds start talking.
“You aren’t smart enough.”
“They will never accept you.”
“Why try? You will only fail.”
They repeat the same message, over and over. YES! They are lies, and the enemy uses them to weaken our confidence in God’s purpose for our lives.
Sometimes, we have heard a lie so often that we stop questioning it. We let someone else’s words determine what we try and what we expect. But familiarity does not make a lie true! Just because those words have grown in us for years doesn’t mean they have a right to stay.
Jesus tells us the thief comes to steal, kill, and destroy, but He came so we could live fully. The enemy wants to choke out our hope and destroy our confidence. We must learn to answer those lies with the truth of God’s Word.
That requires attention. We cannot rehearse everything we think is wrong with us all week and expect one encouraging thought to undo it all. We need to keep returning to what God says.
When the lie says you are alone, remember that God will never leave you. When it says your past makes you useless, remember that in Christ you are a new creation. When it says you cannot take another step, ask God for the strength to obey Him today.
And sometimes, we need help. Just as I needed help clearing my yard, we may need someone trustworthy to pray with us and help us address what has taken root. There is no shame in receiving help.
It is time to stop giving those lies room to grow!
Challenge:
Find a scripture that answers the lie you identified yesterday. Write the verse beside that statement. Each time the lie returns, pause, read the scripture, and pray. Let God’s truth guide one decision you make today.
Prayer:
Father, help me stop agreeing with the lies that have held me back. Renew my mind through Your Word. When old thoughts return, remind me of what You have said. Give me patience as I learn new patterns and humility to receive help when I need it. Strengthen my faith so I can move forward in obedience to You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
