Day Two: Work While You Wait

“Write down the revelation and make it plain on tablets so that a herald may run with it. For the revelation awaits an appointed time; it speaks of the end and will not prove false. Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay.” —Habakkuk 2:2–3 (NIV)
Waiting on God does not mean abandoning the work He has given us. Habakkuk stayed at his watch. Noah built the ark according to God’s instructions before he could see the flood coming. Their faith required action.
That kind of faith is much easier to talk about than to live! We may grow tired of doing the right thing when nothing seems to change. We may want an answer before we take another step. But if God has given us an assignment, we can keep showing up and doing it faithfully while we wait.
Waiting can also reveal what is happening in our hearts. The Israelites’ journey through the wilderness reminds us how easily fear and complaint can pull our attention away from God’s provision. We do not have to pretend that waiting is easy. We can tell God the truth about our frustration and ask Him for the strength to obey.
True faith is work. Sometimes it looks like taking a bold step. Other times it looks like quietly doing what God told us to do, day after day, without knowing when the answer will come.
Question to consider: What work has God given you to continue while you wait for Him?
Prayer: Lord, strengthen me for the assignment You have placed before me. When I grow weary or frustrated, help me remain faithful and do my work with excellence. Amen.
