Day 4: Let God Have the Final Word

Some people remember every mistake you have ever made.
They remember who you were, what you said, where you went, and how badly things turned out. Even when your life begins to change, they may continue speaking to the person you used to be.
But their memory is not God’s limit.
Paul knew what it meant to have a painful past. He had persecuted the church. His conversion did not erase the suffering he had caused, and it is understandable that believers were initially afraid of him. Over time, however, his life demonstrated Jesus Christ’s transforming work.
Paul did not pretend his past had never happened. He testified to the mercy God had shown him and continued serving.
We need that same willingness to move forward.
That does not mean all concern people raise is unfair. Some people may need time to trust us again. We must allow them that time. But we do not have to accept the declaration that we are beyond God’s reach.
There is a difference between receiving corrections and living under condemnation.
Correction helps us recognize what needs to change. Condemnation tells us that change is pointless. God’s grace calls us to repentance and gives us hope for a different future.
You cannot spend your entire life trying to convince everyone that you have changed. Keep walking with God. Let your choices show the work He is doing within you.
Other people may know your history. God is still working in your life today.
Today’s challenge: Identify one way you’ve sought everyone’s approval before moving forward. Choose a faithful action you can take without needing their applause.
Prayer:
Lord, help me receive wise corrections without accepting shame as my identity. Give me patience with those who need time to see my growth. Free me from constantly needing to defend myself. Let my conduct reflect Your transforming grace, and keep my attention on the work You have given me to do. In Jesus’ name, amen.
