We Resent – God Still Loves
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16
Have you ever resented God’s claim on your life? Have you ever resented the fact that he wants us to be loyal to him? Have you ever resented God’s desire that you obey his word even when you don’t agree?
Everything God gives us, he gives us out of love, including his word, which is Jesus (John 1:1 – 14). To resent God’s word is to resent Jesus’ work. To resent God’s word is to resent his love. Resenting God’s word is to resent his hope, his peace, his joy, and his mercy and his grace.
We’ve all been there at one time or another when we don’t like or respect and yes, sometimes resented, what God said or what he requires of us but, God loves us anyway. God knows our hearts, and he knows if we agree with his word or not. No matter what, God still loves us and shows his love for us continually.
Do we do the same for people who disagree with us? Do we still treat them with respect, care, and love even though we know we don’t see eye-to-eye? It’s time for us to start treating people the way God treats us.
Prayer:
Lord, forgive me for resenting you, your word and what you expect from me. Help me to show your love to people who I don’t agree with and treat them the way you want me to treat them even if they don’t treat me with love. I need your help with this because of my own volition, won’t happen. Help me, Lord God! In Jesus name, I pray. Amen.
