Why Our Prayers Don’t Get Answered Sooner, If At All

Reason number 3: We don’t want to take responsibility Proverbs 19:15
Recently I had a total knee replacement. Before I decided to have the surgery, I prayed and asked God to send me to the correct surgeon, the correct hospital and the correct physical therapist. for me. I believed that he would do what I asked and He did.
After the surgeon and the hospital had finished doing everything they were supposed to do, I was released home with a list of things I needed to do before I saw the physical therapist. Once I saw the physical therapist, he gave me more things to do in-between my visits with him.
The surgeon, the hospital and the physical therapist had or were doing what they were responsible for but, what about me. Was I acting in a responsible manner for what I needed to do in order to make sure that my knee replacement didn’t go to waste? Was I acting responsibly for what I had asked God to do for me, which was to take away my knee pain and give me the mobility I had lost?
Sometimes, God doesn’t answer our prayers because we don’t want to take responsibility for what we’ve asked for. Yes, we want it, but either, we’re not willing to work for it, we’re not ready for the responsibility of having it, or once we’ve received what we’ve asked for, we are too lazy to act responsibly.
Proverbs 19:15 states, “Laziness brings on deep sleep, and the shiftless go hungry.” Why would God waste resources by giving us things He knows we’re not going to take care of, we’re not going to work for or be responsible for. So, if we’re not getting what we’re praying for, we must ask ourselves, “Am I ready for what I want.”
Prayer: Lord God, Proverbs 13:4 says, “A sluggard’s appetite is never filled, but the desires of the diligent are fully satisfied.” I do not want to be a sluggard. I want to be a responsible child of God. I want you to be able to trust me to do what you’ve called me to do and entrust me with the work you have set before. I want to be diligent. I want to be responsible, and I want to be trustworthy. Help me in these areas Lord, I pray, in Jesus name. Amen.
