Lord God, we are almost 60 days into the New Year, and I realize I came into this year harboring unforgiveness. I’m still holding on to grudges that I’ve held onto for years, when, in fact, some of the people I’m holding grudges against are dead and others don’t even know I’m holding a grudge. And, for some people, if You asked me why I’m holding a grudge, I don’t even remember what happened to make me mad at them.
Maybe I’m holding something against someone who owes me something. Maybe I’m holding a grudge against someone who talked about me behind my back or wronged me in some way. But, when I think about the grace, You show me daily, I realize I have no right to hold a grudge or unforgiveness against anyone.
You give me life, health and strength every minute of every day, yet I am not always obedient to Your word or Your will for me. You give me provisions to live a good life, yet I wrong You by sinning against You. You give me wisdom and power to make wealth, but when I get the wealth, I don’t always do what You want me to do.
Forgive me for not loving my neighbor as I love myself and as You have loved me. I ask that You help me be more loving and kind to people in my life. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
