Lord God, your word says that true religion is helping the widows and the orphans. Lord, to many of us who call ourselves Christians don’t operate in what you call true religion.
We go to church on Sundays but we don’t reach out to the poor, the least or the less than. In fact, many churches don’t want anyone they don’t know to come to their houses of worship. We go to Sunday school or Bible study, but we don’t practice what we’ve learned. We want to know what our church can do for us, but not what we as a church can do for the community around us. Too many of us operate in fake or false religion. Please forgive us.
Please help us reach out to the people who are in need in our communities. Help us be the hands that help feed the hungry. Help us to be the feet that go the extra mile to support those who need our gifts, talents and abilities. Help us to operate in what you call true religion.
In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
