A Prayer for Our Communities

Father,

When we have faltered and failed, You came to our aid and upheld us with Your righteous right hand. When we wanted to give up because it seemed as though our enemies had gained the upper hand, You raised a standard against them and gave us the victory.

Now, Father, we once again need Your guidance and help. There is so much trouble within our communities—heroin and other opioid addictions, domestic violence, murder, and the abuse and neglect of children by those who should love, nurture, and protect them. Father, we desperately need Your intervention.

Help us, Your children, raise the banner of love, peace, justice, and compassion for others. Give us the courage to move beyond the four walls of our homes and churches so that we may serve the hungry, clothe those in need, seek the lost, support those struggling with addiction, and protect and comfort those who have been abused.

Show us how to become part of the answer to the prayers we offer. Give us discerning hearts, willing hands, and compassionate spirits. Help us recognize the needs around us and respond with more than words. Teach us to love through our actions and to serve without judgment.

Father, help us extend to others the same grace, mercy, and compassion You have extended to us. Use us to give those who are hurting another opportunity to experience healing, hope, restoration, and victory.

In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
