Day One: You Are a New Creation
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, they are a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.”
2 Corinthians 5:17
The first line of the chorus from the Transformers theme song declares, “Transformers, more than meets the eye.” Every time I hear that line, I think about Christians. In Christ, we are more than what meets the eyes or expectations of others.
People often form opinions about us based on what they can see. They may judge us by our appearance, education, occupation, mistakes, weaknesses, or past behavior. However, they cannot always see the work God is doing within us.
When we give our lives to Christ, we become new creations. This does not mean that everything about us changes overnight. Transformation is often a gradual process. God works within us, renewing our thoughts, changing our desires, healing our wounds, and teaching us to live according to His will.
People who knew us before we gave our lives to Christ may be tempted to keep us trapped in who we used to be. In their eyes, we may always be remembered as addicts, thieves, liars, gossipers, haters, troublemakers, or something else from our past.
But God does not define us by the worst thing we have ever done. He sees beyond our failures and recognizes the person we are becoming through Christ. Others may focus on our history, but God focuses on our destiny.
Your transformation may not yet be visible to everyone, but that does not mean it is not taking place. God is working in the hidden places of your heart. Every time you choose faith over fear, obedience over rebellion, forgiveness over bitterness, and truth over deception, evidence of your transformation is being revealed.
You are not who you used to be. You are a new creation, and God is still shaping you into the person He created you to become.
Questions to Consider
- What part of your past have you allowed to define your present identity?
- What changes has God already made in your heart, thinking, or behavior?
- How would your life change if you consistently saw yourself as a new creation?
Prayer
Father God, thank You for making me a new creation through Jesus Christ. Help me release the mistakes, labels, and failures of my past. Teach me to see myself through Your eyes and trust the transforming work You are doing within me. Give me patience with the process and courage to keep moving forward. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
