Father, I will listen for your voice today.
I hear the voice of the world say, “Despair and anger are the right way. Look at the nation, so divided. Look at the national leaders; they can’t work together. The Republicans and running amuck and the Democrats are acting powerless. Look at the world, riots and protest coming up all over the place. You’ll never make it. You might as well give up.”
Then I hear your voice say, “I am with you always, even until the end of time. I am your present help in the time of trouble.”
I hear the voice of my past reminding me of all the times I messed up. It tells me I’m the same person and that I’m going to mess up now. Then I read your word that says I am a new creation. Old things have passed away and everything has become new.
I hear the voice of reason speaking clearly and rationally. “Look at the real world” the voice of reason says, “you have no reason to hope for better. Just do the best with what you have.” But then, I remember you said you came to give me life and to give me live more abundantly and to the full.
Today Lord, I choose to hear your voice over all the others. Not only will I hear your voice, but I will believe what you say. I ignore the voice of the world, the voice of my past and the voice of reason. I choose to listen, obey and follow you today.
In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
