Prayer for Today

October 24, 2018

Lord, I know you put everything in its proper place. Unfortunately, I don’t, and too often, I allow my past to override my today. I realize can’t adjust my past to change my today, but I can adjust my attitude today and change my tomorrow.

I need to get out of my rearview mirror and stop lamenting about what was and move forward with what is and what shall be. Tomorrow is not promised to me, but if my tomorrow becomes my today I want my best tomorrow. I’m tired of being held back and shackled by something I can’t do anything about. Free me from my past tense life.

I can’t change what happened when I was a child. I can’t go back and undo what I perceive as my parent’s bad decisions. I can’t change the fact that I married the wrong person the first time nor can I change who my child’s mother or father is, and I can’t undo the choices of my children make or the bad habits of my mate.I can stand firmly planted in your word knowing that you have a plan for me; a plan to prosper me and to do me well, a plan to give me hope and a future. You have a plan to give me health and healing in every phase of my life. My heart looks up to you for my future tense life.

Today, I surrender my yesterday to you, Lord God. I give it all to you; the good, the bad and the ugly. Today I purpose to walk in your way, being led by the Holy Spirit and not succumbing to the tape-recorded messages of my yesterday. Thank you, Lord. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
