Why Our Prayers Don’t Get Answered Sooner, If At All

Reason number 4: Disobedience Psalm 81:10 – 12
When I was growing up, we didn’t get to negotiate with our parents. They didn’t have to explain anything to us nor did we get to wait until we understood why they were telling us to do something before we started doing it.
In our parents’ home, we had one choice when an adult asks us to do something that wasn’t illegal, unethical or immoral, we obeyed. We could ask for clarification of what we had done AFTER we had finished the chore, but the adult had the option of answering us or not.
When God asks us to do something, it is not up for debate or negotiation. When God tells us to do something, we are to respond by doing it not talking about it, not ponding how we can get out of it or what parts we want to do and leave the rest undone.
Many of us could sit down and make a list of the things God has asked us to do that we still haven’t done. And yet, we continue to pray and ask God for what we want without any regard to being obedient to His word to us.
In Psalm 81:10 – 16, God starts by saying that He freed his people from their bondage but they still wouldn’t listen to him so, he turned them over to their own stubborn hearts and their own counsel. In other words, God is saying (I’m paraphrasing) “I gave you want you asked me for, and you still won’t listen to me! You wanna do it you’re way? Fine!!! Do it you’re way!!! I wanted to give you a good life but never mind. I’ll be here once you realize you need me!”
Take a moment and be honest with yourself. Are you obedient to everything God has told you to do? If not, make a list of the things you need to do and start working on them. God really does want to give you a good life but, obedience to Him comes first.
Prayer: Lord God, forgive me for not being obedient to everything you’ve asked me to do. As I begin to make a list of the things I need to do, please remind me of anything I may have forgotten. Let me not grow anxious, but allow me to realize You knew I was going to be at this place right now and You have already built it into Your timetable for me. I am not behind the curve; I am in line with where You knew I was going to be and when. Thank you! In Jesus name, I pray. Amen.
