Father, I know we are a week into the Lenten Season but I just don’t feel like giving up anything. That gestor seems so empty to me. Giving up something for a total of 46 days just to pick it up again on the 47th days seems like a waste of time.
Father, everyone keeps asking me what I’m giving up for Lent and when I say “nothing” they look at me as if I’ve committed the greatest sin in the world. I just don’t see how giving up chocolate, meat or sodas is going to get me closer to You.
Lord, I want to use these days to get to know You better. I want to use these days to get in Your word more, to pray more and to learn more about my relationship with You. Giving up things isn’t going to help me do that, so I’m going to kick tradition to the curb and do what I need to do to make Lent meaningful to me.
Father, draw me closer to You so that I may know You better. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
