Father, sometimes it seems the closer I get to you, the further away I get from people. Family, friends, co-workers and church members start to talk to me about television shows and I have to tell them, “I don’t watch that.” They start to talk to me about other people and I have to tell them, “I don’t want to hear that.” They start telling me about a new place to hang out, and I have to tell them, “I don’t go there.”
Lord, it’s not like I just sit at home do nothing, but my goal is to fulfill your will for my life. I have made the decision that anything that doesn’t work towards that goal is not allowed in my life.
If it doesn’t praise you, I don’t want it. If it doesn’t glorify you, I don’t want it. If it doesn’t lead me to look more like Christ, I don’t want it. I know this mindset will leave me out of a lot of things other people want to do but I can never fulfill your plan for me by going along to get along.
I have decided to renew my mind in you. I must put your word in my mind, in my mouth and in action in my life. Strengthen me Lord to stand firm in my resolve to be more like you. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
