Word for Today

Created Chosen Called

You Were Chosen

Matthew 22:14

For many are invited, but few are chosen.”

I was watching the movie “42” about Jackie Robinson and I thought about all that he and his family had to go through for him to be successful as the first African-American player in Major League baseball. I thought about President Barak Obama, Jesse Owens and Thurgood Marshall. I thought about Condoleezza Rice, Gen. Colin Powell (Ret.) and Congresswoman Shirley Chisholm; all were the first people of color to achieve the title of “First” for something in their field.

Whether God chooses us to be the first, the last or somewhere in the middle of something, he makes the choice on purpose.

When God chooses us to do an assignment he chooses us based on the totality of who we are; our temperament, the things that we’ve gone through to bring us to the place where we are now, our looks, our background and upbringing. All these things make us who we are and, are the reasons God chooses us for our assignments.

Unfortunately, all too often we look at ourselves through the eyes of the world system and only see what we think the world sees when it looks at us. The world system says repeatedly, we must be super model thin to be considered worthy of being called attractive. The world system says we must be rich or famous to be counted amount those whom others should listen to. The world system says we should be educated with the right type of degrees and from the right schools or we’ll be outsiders and not allowed to join them at the popular table.

No matter what the world tells us, it does not stop God from doing what he’s going to do and it shouldn’t stop us from doing what God has assigned us to do.

When God has given you an assignment, what the world system says about you doesn’t amount to a hill of beans. When God gives each of us our assignments, he has already measured the totality of who we are and he knows we can successfully complete the assignment.

The world system only knows the labels it has placed on us. God knows what he’s placed in us.

But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong.” I Corinthians 1:27
