Faith – IV

Only Believe

“While Jesus was still speaking, some people came from the house of Jairus, the synagogue leader. ‘“Your daughter is dead,”’ they said. “’Why bother the teacher anymore?”’ Overhearing what they said, Jesus told him, ‘“Don’t be afraid; just believe.”’ Mark 5:35 – 36 (NIV)

Jairus watched Jesus heal the woman with the issue of blood. He watched Jesus stop to figure out who had touched him and then, the woman identified herself and she proceeded to have a conversation with Jesus; the person who had distracted Jesus from doing what Jairus needed him to do.

Just as Jesus finished with the law-breaking woman, Jairus got word that his daughter was dead. Now, Jairus could have lost his mind right then and there. He could have cussed and fussed at Jesus, had the woman arrested or just allowed his emotions to get the best of him. Instead, he listened and trust in what Jesus said, “’Don’t be afraid; just believe.”’

Do you have enough faith to overlook earthly reality and rest on spiritual truth? Do you have enough faith to trust God more than you trust men? Do you have enough faith to shut out everything going on internally so you can hear God’s simple instructions? Do you have enough faith to ignore the obvious and believe the impossible? This is the type of faith Jairus had to have in order to get his miracle.
