Ask for Forgiveness

Why Our Prayers Don’t Get Answered Sooner, If At All

Reason number 8: God wants us to repent Luke 15:11 – 31

May 8, 2019

The parable of the prodigal son is very familiar to those of us who have been in church for more than a day or two. It’s one of the parables or stories that is taught in Sunday school, and many sermons are preached from this passage of scripture.

But seldom do we see the importance of the journey that the prodigal son went through that brought him to the place where he was willing to repent and ask his father for forgiveness. For some of us, the reason that God isn’t answering our prayers is that he wants us to repent.

The prodigal son knew he had done wrong. The father could have found him and helped him, but instead, he allowed his son to hit rock bottom before he realized he needed to repent and ask his father for forgiveness. Only then could the prodigal son get back on the correct track for his life and put him in the right position with his father.

When we know we’re doing wrong, God could come and find us and help us, but instead, God often allows us to hit rock bottom so that we can realize that we need to repent and ask for forgiveness.

Prayer: God, my Lord, and Savior, I must come to you as the prodigal son went to his father and say, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and in your sight and am no longer worthy to be called your child’ please forgive and help me live up to your standards. In Jesus name, I pray. Amen.
